Established in 2001

Introduction

The Department was established in 2001, with the aim of cultivating professionals needed by marine biotechnology related industries. Because of the rapid development in biotechnology, the applications cover a broad spectrum of agriculture, pharmaceuticals, food processing, environmental protection and marine industries. In addition to the practical courses, opportunities of practical training outside the campus are also provided to cultivate students becoming practical technologists.

 

 

Programs and courses

The department provides both the undergraduate and graduate students with basic training courses in modern biotechnology, which includes biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, genetics, cell biology, transgenic techniques, and laboratory courses and practices essential to the success in the field of biotechnology

 

Research

Research focuses on applying the enzyme technology, protein engineering, genetic engineering, transgenic techniques, biochemical engineering, cell culture and immunological techniques to the study of marine biology, aquaculture and biomedicine.
